In memoriam: Willem de Wit (1948 - 2025)
For many years, Willem de Wit was the face of the Gouda Cheese Market. As Cheese Market Master, he ensured, with his authority and enthusiasm, that everything ran according to tradition and that the cheese market was a success every week.
With his extensive knowledge of history and the trade, he brought the rich tradition of the Gouda Cheese Market to life for visitors and participants. Since 2022, he has been appointed Honorary Wage Master for his exceptional achievements and has thus been admitted to the Guild.
Willem passed away on December 23, 2025. We will miss him, but we will never forget him. His dedication, drive, and commitment live on in the market he loved so much.
